After the abysmal performance of "Fantastic Four" at the box office and the horrible reviews by critics, rumor has it that the film's sequel scheduled for release on June 9, 2017 has been given the backseat. The sequel to the Ryan Reynolds' starring "Deadpool" is reported to take its place instead. This report was initially published by The Daily Superhero.
Critics have been very unforgiving to the newest release of 20th Century Fox. Christopher Orr of The Atlantic calls Director Josh Trank of Chronicle fame's reboot a "dull, sour, claustrophic mess." Trank's dark adaptation might not have worked for "F4."
Philip Kollar of Polygon calls out the lack of humor of the film and calls the reboot "overbearingly dour drama about four teenagers whose lives are ruined by science." The movie has flopped domestically, and the global markets only earned $60.3 million, the second worst-grossing Marvel movie so far.
Meanwhile, much excitement has been forming for "Deadpool's" release next year since the launch of its first trailer last week. Although nothing is set on its sequel, the potential second installment might reportedly feature another Marvel character, Cable.
Director Tim Miller shared to Empire his desires of including another loved character to the possible sequel of "Deadpool." He said that "there aren't really many definitive 'Deadpool' villains, apart from Cable. If we don't put Cable in 'Deadpool 2' I think we'll be run out of town on a rail."
The plans for the possible swapping of the two sequels might pose a challenge to Marvel Studios. According to Cinema Blend, even if they are planning for "Deadpool 2" as early as now, the timelines for the possible release date might be too tight and that they might start filming before June 2016. The possible shift is reportedly a definite gamble.
"Deadpool" is set for release on February 16, 2016.
