As the new King Kong movie is currently in the works, the production is piling up on its star-studded cast before its premiere date in 2017. It was earlier confirmed that "Thor" star Tom Hiddleston will be playing as the male lead of the film. Entertainment Weekly reported that Hiddleston will be working alongside Brie Larson, who has been cast as the female lead in "Kong: Skull Island."
According to the report, Larson confirmed her participation in the film by posting a photo of an invitation from King Kong himself on her Twitter page. The text with the photo reads, "Brie, welcome to the jungle. Love, King Kong." The film that will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts was said to have cast Larson shortly after Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons dropped out of the film.
Reports also claim that Samuel L. Jackson will be taking the role of Simmons after the actor declined to appear in the film because of conflict in schedule. Meanwhile, it was also speculated that Russell Crowe, who is also being courted by the studios to appear on the film, is set to replace Keaton or Simmons in the film.
Legendary Pictures is reported to be in talks with the actors. In addition, it was also reported that John C. Reilly and Tom Wilkinson are also in talks with the studio to be part of the new King Kong film.
According to Cinemablend, the movie is set 25 years after King Kong's death in New York, and Carl Denham's son is set to go to an expedition to Skull Island to solve the mystery behind the huge beast. The movie is said to be different from the previous installments and is reported to go deeper into the natural habitat of King Kong.
"Kong: Skull Island" is slated for release next year, March 10, 2017.
