Anime Is Coming to Hollywood: 'Naruto', 'Death Note' & Other Anime Live-Action Movies Now In The Works

It was earlier reported that "Boruto: Naruto Movie" will be premiering in the U.S. in October. Now there are reports circulating that the the live-action "Naruto" film is in the works.

According to Vine Report, Lionsgate has acquired the movie rights of the "Naruto" franchise. In addition, it was reported that Avi Arad will be producing the film under his company, Arad Productions, alongside Erik Feig, Geoff Shaveitz, and Kelly O'Malley.

The film ss set to be directed by Michael Gracey, who is also a visual effects specialist who has worked on several big screen projects. This will also be his directorial debut.

This is not the first time that Hollywood will make an anime live-action film. According to reports, several years ago, Akira Toriyama's "Dragon Ball" was made into a live-action film with the title "Dragon Ball: Evolution." However, the film garnered mostly negative reviews.

Aside from a "Naruto" live-action movie, a live-action film for the anime series "Death Note" has also been making a buzz for several years now. Vine Report said that there are already three people who are rumored to be the director of the Hollywood adaptation of the film. Adam Wingard was reported to be the official director of the project, and rumors are circulating that Masi Oka will be producing the film while Jeremy Slater will work on the script.

Meanwhile, according to Slash Film, "Avengers" star Scarlett Johansson is set to be the lead star for the Hollywood adaptation of the anime "Ghost in the Shell," which is set to be released in 2017. The movie is also said to be produced by Arad with Rupert Sanders as the director. The movie will reportedly be under Paramount Pictures.

Furthermore, GoBoiano listed some of the live-action anime adaptations coming to Hollywood soon. According to the site, Warner Bros. will be working on "Robotech" and "Bleach," while Disney will be working on "Doraemon" and "Youkai Watch."
