"Dragon Ball" has released its 19th American animated film entitled "Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F," which fans have referred to as "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F." Though reports have revealed that it is showing in selected theaters only, the latest movie franchise is doing well in the weekend's box office records.
"Resurrection F" premiered last August 4th in 900 theaters and has already earned more than $4 million USD. With the sales rate that it is now traversing, movie experts are expecting that it will overthrow the records set by the 2005 Japanese feature film "Howl's Moving Castle", Crossmap reported.
Created by Hayao Miyazaki, "Howl's Moving Castle" is a popular Japanese feature movie from Studio Ghibli. Through Disney movies, it reached the American market and was able to run for a number of weeks, accumulating $4.7 million USD. In domestic release sales records, the movie reached the 10th spot in the Top Grossing Anime Films.
"Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F's" performance was made more remarkable, thanks to the most recent "Dragon Ball Z" news that it will only be showing in theaters until the middle of August. The number of movie houses that has accepted it has also been reduced to 246. Despite the time and movie house limitations, the movie is still able to gain $400,000 in ticket sales.
If the rate does not change until the last day of showing, "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" could also shove down the top grossing anime films list's ninth placer, "The Wind Rises," also a film by Miyazaki.
The story of "Revival of F" is based on a TV series written by Akira Torimayama and a direct "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" sequel. In this movie, Frieza's allies were successful in reviving a few of his pieces. Frieza is presently seeking revenge over Trunks and Goku by trying to grab the "Golden Frieza" status, Latin Times reported.
"Dragon Ball Z: Revival of F" will also be shown in a lesser number of theaters this Sunday, making it 154 from 246 movie houses.
