Google Fiber Heading to San Antonio Texas

Google Fiber, is already in cities like Kansas City, Provo and Austin and was supposed to expand at a very fast rate but the local authorities had given them a hard time in the past with reported complaints like busted gas lines and unannounced construction workers popping up in backyards of some unwelcoming residents. It was also reported that the installation of the said service played a role in the explosion and fire that destroyed a Kansas City restaurant. Later on, the company filed a lawsuit demanding the government to treat internet as a basic utility, which helped them gather momentum. Google seem to have moved beyond those challenges and now Google Fiber is heading to San Antonio, Texas, one of the biggest cities in the country.

The Mayor of San Antonio, Ivy Taylor, officially made the announcement Google Fiber service is indeed coming to the Southwest city. The company has been considering San Antonio for a long time now but major challenges such as size of the city and its rugged terrains, has prevented them from launching the service earlier.

In their official blog post, Google said, "Unlike typical broadband, the fiber connections require special infrastructure to support the speed and stability that it could offer to the consumers. Our team of experts will be working with the city officials in the following months. They will create a strategic plan that will allow us to cover the 4,000 miles with fiber optic cables"

Why San Antonio? Ever since its inception, Google has targeted Texas because it is densely populated-with over 1.4 million people and counting, and it has been one of the faster growing regions in the U.S. In an article written for Liz Petroff, REALTOR® - Texas Premier Realty, it was mentioned that San Antonio is buzzing with excitement, and some experts are predicting that it could have a big impact on the already-booming housing market. Furthermore rates for the San Antonio market have not been officially announced yet, but customers who opted for Google Fiber in Austin, Texas pay about $70 a month for Internet service and $130 per month for an Internet and TV bundle package, according to the article.
