The popular beach TV series is coming to the big screen next year. According to IGN, the "Baywatch" movie is currently in the works and it is based on the 1990s television series about California lifeguards.
One of the confirmed cast members for the film is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who is also one of the producers of the movie alongside Dany Garcia at Seven Bucks Productions. MTV reported that Johnson has signed the contract for the movie back in October 2014.
Reports reveal that he will play a role of a very serious lifeguard. In a description given for the character, it says that this "very serious" lifeguard will have to team up with a "young rule-flouting hothead" to stop an evil oil tycoon and to save the beach from potential disaster.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, this young hothead would be played by Zac Efron. The report states that the actor is still in negotiations in appearing in the film.
Efron just finished the production of one of his upcoming movies "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates," in which he stars with Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza. He also has another comedy film alongside Robert De Niro in "Dirty Grandpa."
It was reported that by the end of the month, he will be back filming with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne for the sequel of "Neighbors." It was said that all three of his upcoming movies will be released next year.
"Baywatch" movie is said to be in the works for years now and it just recently added Seth Gordon as its director.
The television series "Baywatch," which ran for 12 years, from 1989 to 2001, starred David Hasslehoff and Pamela Anderson. Although there is still no official plot for the movie, it was reported that the movie will not be directly inspired by the original show's characters.
