Google has been part of our daily lives in acquiring knowledge, reconnecting with loved ones, discovering new things and sometimes, to simply have fun.
With its new era that's about to dawn, Google has been in every household all over the world for 20 years. Let's relive the history of an internet giant.
In 1995, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co- founders of Google, met at Stanford University where Brin took Page for a tour. Later in 1996, the two started to work on a new search engine for the internet which brought the world into the future. The search engine later becomes what we know as of today as Google. Two years of work and dedication have passed and Google incorporates and the milestone of moving to Wojcicki's garage in Menlo Park, California had taken place in 1998. In their efforts to improve their project, Brin and Page moved to Mountain View, California and provided meals for their workers by hiring the first in- house chef in 1999.
New millennium has been good for Google as Eric Schmidt was named CEO in 2001 while Page and Brin are presidents for Google's products and technology. Google then offered its first public stock offering after introducing Gmail to the world in 2004. Google continues to expand as it acquired one of the most used and visited social media platform. YouTube was bought by Google for $1.6 billion in 2006.
As time goes by, a lot of changes happened including the reign of Larry Page as the company's CEO while Schmidt became an executive chairman. In 2014, Page and Brin remained as major voting stockholders after a controversial stock split that made a new division of non- voting shares. And just recently, Google announces that Google will be hand over to Sundar Pichai and that Larry Page will be the next CEO of Google's umbrella company, Alphabet.
