What is a Ghostbusters movie without Bill Murray? This is one of the biggest questions producers had to find an answer to before they can breathe a sigh of relief just in time for the remake production of one the biggest movie franchises of the 1980s. Fortunately, they did not have to find out the hard way as the veteran actor finally agreed to be included in the film remake. He will join fellow Ghostbusters alumni Dan Aykroyd, who reportedly revealed, he shot a scene last month in a report from variety.com.
The rebooted version of Ghostbusters will have major changes starting with the cast which will no longer be centered on the original characters. Instead of the all male quartet of Egon, Peter, Rey, and Winston, they will be replaced by an all-female crew that will be played by actors Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.
It took a long time for the new Ghostbusters film to come into shape and was mired in a lot of delays like the reluctance of Bill Murray to join his old crew for a remake reunion. Ivan Reitman, director of the original movie was also set to return but Harold Ramis who played Egon Spengler, the leader of the Ghostbusters, passed away last year and Reitman decided to pass on the project according to hollywoodreporter.com.
Now that Bill Murray has agreed to appear in the movie, it's still unclear if we'll see Peter Venkman in action again or if he'll play a different character. The fact that Harold Ramis passed away might be a big factor for the new director Paul Fieg's decision to veer away from the idea of reuniting the original band of ghost busting heroes every kid in the 80s worshipped. Or what could be a better tribute to Ramis than seeing Bill Murray fight evil ghosts again?
