Captain Tony Lara, who always appeared at the helm of the Cornelia Marie, was Discovery Channel's celebrity ship captain in one of its high-rating shows, "Deadliest Catch". This crabbing veteran will surely be missed.
In an article released by Discovery.com, Captain Tony Lara worked on the ship in the 1990's for about ten years as well as ran the Cornelia Marie throughout salmon tendering. The captain was a very good friend of Phil Harris who was the Cornelia Marie's past captain who died in 2010. Captain Lara helped in building a great deal of the ship when the Cornelia Marie was originally constructed for crabbing. Knowing the ship inside and out, Captain Lara had a very clear picture of the Cornelia Marie's engine room. This earned him the sole right to be the man of the ship's helm.
The good captain though can no longer sail the raging seas and continue his quest for the deadliest catch. What would happen now to the Cornelia Marie without the man who was most suited to take its helm? May he rest in peace.
