'About Ray' Synopsis, Cast, Trailer: Elle Fanning Stars as a Transgender Teen in New Family Drama [video]

Elle Fanning will star in the new drama "About Ray" where she will go from being Ramona to Ray. Ramona is a transgender teen who will transition from female to male.

In the new trailer, they focus on the struggle of Ramona's mother and grandmother, played by Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon respectively. The trailer shows the family trying to adjust to the change, as well as Ray's struggle in school. He also goes through the problem of having a father who is unable to accept his transition.

Ray's mother and grandmother have questions that result from all their worries:

"Why can't she just be a lesbian?"

"What if he turns around one day and says, Mom, I had a mistake?

This new drama is definitely garnering the interest of the people, especially those who struggle with being a transgender. It hasn't been too long since the transgender topic has become a typical TV topic, and it is usually about adult transgender (i.e. 'Orange Is The New Black', 'Transparent', 'I am Cait'). "About Ray" on the other hand is about teenage transgenderism. Source says that they expect it to be a moving and slightly predictable family drama.

"About Ray" is a touching story about a 3-generational family living in the same house in New York. They have to deal with the life-changing transformation of Ramona who wants to go from being a female to a male. Ramona's single mother, Maggie (Naomi Watts), has to track down Ramona's father (Tate Donovan), so he can give Ramona his consent for his transformation. Having a father-issue of her own, Ray managed to face his father for the consent, despite his father being unwelcoming of the idea of having a transgender child. Each member of their family has to face their own struggle, confront their own identities, to eventually be able to accept the changes that arise in their family, so as to ultimately find understanding and acceptance within their hearts.
