Network executives at TV Land have decided to pull the plug on "The Exes" after four seasons. Star of the show, Kristen Johnston, announced the cancellation of the last multi-cam original series of the network on her Twitter page.
She tweeted: "Well, it's official: LAST 6 eps of @The_Exes EVER start airing this Weds. Even great ratings can't #SaveGoodTV." Johnston also mentioned that they have already expected such outcome and have decided that the last six episodes will be the "best ones yet."
According to Carter Matt, the cancellation might have been led by TV Land's rebranding. The network has decided to shift their efforts to produce shows that are targeted to a younger demographic. The news outlet also mentioned that "they may not be so much in the business of getting classic TV stars to appear in new multi-camera sitcoms anymore."
Johnston starred in the sitcom as a divorce attorney living in New York with her three divorced male clients played by David Alan Basche, Donald Faison, and Wayne Knight. "The Exes" also starred Leah Remini and Kelly Stables.
Looks like all is well for the network's president and Johnston as they exchanged sweet tweets with one another. Johnston told Larry W. Jones that she loves him and that he was the best boss she ever had.
The series enjoyed great ratings from the first season with an average of .27 in the 18-49 demographic with 1.18 million viewers. The fourth season had .13 with 560k viewers, according to TV Series Finale.
The end of "The Exes" has followed the string of cancellations from TV Land for the series "Hot in Cleveland" and "Soul Man."
The series finale of TV Land's last multi-cam show will be aired on September 16, 2015.
