‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Release Date & Cast: The Heroes Get a New Member; Could It Be Dave Batista Drax’ Daughter, Moondragon? Is She Alive After All?

Much has been said about the sequel of the Marvel film "Guardians of the Galaxy," though it's set to be released two years from now. Now the Chris Pratt-starrer sequel has been officially confirmed by director James Gunn, and he even revealed that new Guardian members will be featured in the film.

According to MNR Daily, the director replied to a fan question on his Twitter page and replied affirmatively that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will indeed feature new members.

"Will we get into Rocket's background in the future? Any new Guardians members?" the fan asked. "Yes and yes," Gunn curtly replied.

While no details about the new members have been revealed yet, various rumors and speculations point to Drax' (Dave Batista) daughter, Moondragon, as the new member. According to Master Herald, though it was established in "Guardians of the Galaxy" that Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) killed Drax' family, his daughter might have survived after all.

Other characters might also join the squad of heroes in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2." Among these are Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu (Michael Rooker).

Master Herald said that although Yondu was a villain in the first "Guardians" film, she may turn against her father and join Star-Lord (Pratt) and the rest of the heroes. Meanwhile, Yondu is speculated to be a new member of the Guardians as well since he has stood as Peter Quill or Star-Lord's father figure in the first film.

In a related report, Irish Examiner said that Rooker has confirmed that the script for "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is finished and that filming will soon begin in Atlanta.

In addition to new Guardians in the sequel, Gunn also previously reportedly hinted on his Facebook page that Peter Quill's father will be revealed in the sequel as well as feature Rocket Racoon's (Bradley Cooper) backstory.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is slated to be released in May 5, 2017.
