Christie's to Sell Eco-Friendly Portable Private Islands

Christie's will soon offer a unique luxury real estate opportunity for consumers who are looking to buy their own eco-friendly private island.

Christie's International Real Estate announced its new initiative Tuesday last August 11, wherein the company is planning to build self-sufficient and eco-friendly private islands, reports Forbes. Christie's new project, named "Amirallah Private Islands," is in partnership with expert developer Dutch Docklands. Michael Sherman, vice president of corporate communications for Christie's International Real Estate, New York, even described the company's collaboration with the innovative firm as an initiative that "fits perfectly" with Christie's strategy.

The "Amirallah Private Islands," according to the statement released by Christie's, will allow interested buyers to customize the size, shape and style of the portable island. Aside from customization, prospective island owners can also choose where the floating residences will be located. Dutch architect and one of Times' most influential people, Koen Olthuis, designed the innovative tailor-made floating residences. The floating islands are environmentally friendly and is safe from rising sea levels. The project also promotes creation of a new underwater habitat for sea life.

The Christie's statement also mentioned the Amirallah project as a creative vision of Dutch Docklands. The firm has also partnered with Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ocean Futures Society for the Amirallah project. Dutch Docklands was established in 2005 by Paul H.T.M. van de Camp and Koen Olthuis. The company's development strategies are based on centuries of Dutch expertise in water defense technology and management or "Know-H2OW."

Meanwhile, Dutch Docklands has also partnered with Kuwait-based Oqyana Real Estate to build a series of floating properties at Nakheel's "The World" islands in Dubai, reports The National. Earlier in June, Nakheel had already approved Oqyana and Dutch Docklands' project proposal, which was then submitted to the Department of Planning and Development, or the Trakhees, and other authorities. The project consists of 33 man-made islands to be formed in the shape of Australasia.

Each of the islands will reportedly be self-sufficient and will feature its own residence, garden, pool and beach. According to Paul van de Camp, chief executive of Dutch Docklands, the company is looking forward to building the islands and offer their unique services to project. The Dutch Docklands' executive said, "We are the only company in the world offering floating private islands tailor-made to client specifications, based on our Dutch heritage of hundreds of years of working with the water."
