The role that won Charlize Theron her first (and so far, only) Oscar will be recreated on the small screen this year for the Halloween episode of American Horror Story: Hotel.
Rabe has already appeared in previous seasons of the horror anthology series that airs on FX as different characters (as a nun in Sister Mary Eunice McKee, as a witch in Misty Day, and as the human Nora Montgomery character). Rabe was also in a play adaptation of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice," nabbing a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Play.
According to a report by E! Online, show maker Ryan Murphy has said that one of the upcoming episodes for halloween this year is called Devil's Night. "I'm directing it. Lily Rabe is coming to that episode, and she's playing Aileen Wuornos, which is really bizarre. She's at the centerpiece of that Halloween episode, and that's who she's playing," said Murphy.
Wuornos was a serial killer who murdered seven men in Florida from the late '80s to the early '90s. The character was played perfectly by Charlize Theron in the 2003 movie "Monster." She claimed to do the murders as a form of self-defense, insisting that the victims raped or attempted to rape her.
She was eventually convicted and sentenced to death on October 9, 2002. Her story had become so notorious then that DEJ Productions soon commissioned for a film to be made, which brought Theron's first Oscar glory.
Based on the report of Inquisitr news, the fifth season of the show will star Lady Gaga as hotel owner Elizabeth, Angela Bassett as actress Ramona Royale, Wes Bentley as detective John Lowe, Naomi Campbell as an unnamed fashion editor, and Matt Bomer as Donovan. The new season will be the first one with Lady Gaga after Jessica Lange temporarily left the series to pursue other projects.
American Horror Story: Hotel will be launched on October 7 on FX.
