Queen Nefertiti's Remains Might Have Been Found in Tutankhamun’s Tomb

Nicholas Reeves, an archaeologist at the University of Arizona who is a member of the team conducting digging in the area, believes Nefertiti's remains may lie in King Tutankhamun's tomb. The tomb was famously found in 1922 by English archaeologist Howard Carter.

The possibility of finding the remains of the former Queen of Egypt was made after a group of Spanish artistic and preservation specialists were commissioned to produce detailed scans of Tutankhamun's tomb. The scans were used to produce a facsimile of the tomb, according to a report by BBC.

After looking at the scans, Dr. Reeves saw what he thinks are marks indicating where two doorways used to be.

"I have been testing the evidence ever since, looking for indications that what I thought I was seeing was, in fact, not there," Dr. Reeves said. "But the more I looked, the more information I found that I seemed to be looking at something pretty real," the archaeologist said.

Dr. Reeves is of the belief that there are many hints in the design of the tomb that point to it being for a queen and not a king. In a report by the Economist, he says that, "Each piece of evidence on its own is not conclusive, but put it all together and it's hard to avoid my conclusion."

"If I'm wrong, I'm wrong," he said. "But if I'm right, the prospects are frankly staggering. The world will have become a much more interesting place - at least for Egyptologists," he concluded.

The layout of the tomb of The Boy King has been a source of mystery among archaeology and Egyptology circles because it is smaller compared to other Egyptian kings' tombs.

According to a report by Newser, if Reeves' claim is proven correct, it would bring light and even some answers to the many mysteries surrounding King Tutankhamun's tomb, including his iconic funeral mask which "sports the strangely unmanly feature of pierced ears."

As of press time, Egyptian authorities and Factum Arte have not released a statement.
