Geno Smith In Hot Water With Cris Carter

Superbowl season is here already, so getting "sucker punched" isn't a pretty thing to hear right?

Well, that's what exactly happened to NY Jets' Geno Smith, who allegedly got into a locker room disagreement with teammate Ikemefuna "I.K" Enemkpali, leading to the punching fiasco with the latter.

Sports.yahoo.com mentioned in an article the latest breakout news involving two grown men in what could have just been a preventable middle school-grade fight. ESPN NFL Analyst and also former Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver,Cris Carter, was quoted as saying of the incident "It's a lack of leadership on Geno Smith's part that he would put himself in harm's way to get sucker punched." Well, that might be a reason however, it doesn't actually justify what really pushed I.K. to give Smith a broken jaw.

The resulting injury led to Geno Smith being out for at least 6-10 weeks to recuperate, according to an article on the nytimes.com. In the meantime, Enemkpali was immediately cut by his own team, the NY Jets. In a latest Twitter post, the Jets' management was quoted as saying "We have signed CB Javier Arenas and released LB Ikemefuna Enemkpali. - 1:38 AM - 12 Aug 2015

I.K. was the team captain for Louisiana Tech, prior to getting drafted for the NY Jets last year. Though 6'1" tall at 272 pounds, he was given the position as an outside linebacker for the said team. Media people had quite a challenge pronouncing his last name, and I.K. wasn't really hitting it with his performance in the field, although he was able to do more than a few tackles in only limited minutes, as mentioned in the same article.

Cbssports.com also reported that incidents like these have happened to previous quarterbacks. Tony Dorsett replaced Clint Longley during the #2 pick in the 1977 draft, as seen in a tweet from Gil Brandt of the Dallas Cowboys.
