The 63-year-old Irish actor will be taking the role of a significant historical war figure. In an report published by Entertainment weekly, it was said that Liam Neeson has signed on to play as General Douglas MacArthurn in Operation Chromite which is a Korean War drama about the Battle of Inchon.
The upcoming Korean war film is being produced by a South Korean production company known as Taewon Entertainment, with Lee Man-hee as the script writer and John H. Lee (a.k.a. Lee Jae-Han) as the director. The two are said to have previously worked together on the 2010 Korean War movie project entitled as "71: Into the Fire". EW also reports that the head of the Taewon Entertainment, Jeong Tae-won, has told Korean news agency Yonhap that Operation Chromite will begin production in South Korea in late September with a production cost of about $12 million.
"Operation Chromite" was a code name that referred to the Battle of Inchon, which was a 1950 United Nations military operation planned and executed by General Douglas MacArthur which led to the decisive victory in favor of UN that reverse the tide of the Korean War. The film will focus on eight Korean troop members and their vital part in the epic battle.
Operation Chromite is one of the rare Korean films that included Hollywood actors. Other roles for this highly anticipated movie have yet to be cast as the film is expected to be released in the first half of the year 2016. Aside from this movie, last year a Korean Film entitled "Snowpiercer" was released. It was an English-language post-apocalyptic thriller movie directed by Bong Joon-ho that cast Hollywood stars Tilda Swinton and Chris Evans.
