NBC surprised its fans as they announce that Jimmy Fallon's "The Tonight Show" is going to be extended for four and a half years which let the show be on- air until the fall of 2021.
According to nytimes.com, "The Tonight Show" has always been on the no.1 in the ratings in its time slot. Despite of the impending competition as Stephen Colbert is set to be taking over CBS' "The Late show" which will be aired on the same time slot as Fallon's, the chairman of NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, is not really bothered that Colbert's show will affect Fallon's ratings.
He said, "The good news is Colbert does something very different from what Jimmy Fallon does. Jimmy's the variety show as opposed to Colbert, which will be the more talky, maybe more political, more satire."
Also, Mr. Greenblatt said that Fallon will still be "the guy four weeks before Colbert enters the fray." The management also favors "long- term deals" which Fallon have provided for the network. In addition to the show's good reviews, Mr. Colbert himself said that Fallon's show is an "honest show" and he has no desire in competing with Fallon in whatever feud between hosts of late- night comedy shows that has been happening for years.
In a report by cbsnews.com, Fallon became the host of "The Tonight Show" on February 2014 after Jay Leno's departure. After taking over the show, Jimmy Fallon have brought different artists and celebrities on the show as well musical performances that the audience come to love.
Just recently, Fallon got involved in a minor accident which caused him an injury in his finger. Due to that, Fallon was forced to miss some of his show's episode and when he came back, he was sporting a a cast in one of his finger which he still wears up to this day.
