The hype for the new "Dragon Ball Z Kai" on TV resulted to Toonami being brought back to Cartoon Network. Reports say that the anime has been earning quite a viewership, especially during the weekends. With the success of the over-the-top release of "Dragon Ball Z Resurrection of F," the TV series snatched the top spot in TV ratings for viewers 18-49 years-old.
"Dragon Ball Z" has long been pegged as a huge risk for TV networks, given that the fan base of the anime outside Japan remained partial to a particular type of group, News Hub said. Fortunately for the fans, the uprising of comic book films has created a room for one more anime on television.
Discussions among the "Dragon Ball Z Kai" fans in the ANN forum confirm that the high ratings is due in part to the highly successful release of the film in the same franchise. According to reports, the timing for the two could not have been more perfect. It is also said to have helped the opening of the manga 'Akamega Kill."
"Dragon Ball Z Kai" first aired on Toonami late last year. On Saturday, Aug. 8th, the series hit the 1.0 rating, which means that the show garnered almost 2 million live viewers, reported Anime News Network. "AkameGa Kill" came to a close second, earning a .9 rating for viewers of the same demographic.
Meanwhile, die-hard "Dragon Ball Z" fans who want to know what is ahead, will be happy to hear that the latest installment in the franchise was recently released and is now airing in Japan. The series is entitled "Dragon Ball Super."
Funimation, the company responsible for the official broadcasting and licensing of "Dragon Ball Z Kai" outside of Japan, illustrated the story. In a report by Attack of the Fan Boy, Funimation describes the sequence as: "The battle rages through space to Planet Namek, where [Goku's son] Gohan and his overmatched allies risk their lives to defeat the Saiyan warlord Vegeta - and the monster known as Frieza."
