HUD launches ‘Innovation of the Day’ on Planning and Living

To highlight best practices in affordable housing, community development and urban planning from around the world, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently launched an online platform – Innovation of the Day.

"Innovation of the Day is a tool to form partnerships and invite new and bold ideas to stimulate uncommon solutions to our everyday problems," said HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan in a statement. "As an organization, HUD is embracing innovation that can have a profound and lasting impact in unexpected and exciting ways."

With Innovation of the Day, the HUD will be able to study emerging trends and how innovative ideas were implemented successfully in various markets.

According to the release, anyone can use this online platform, which will connect local HUD and regional offices with private, public, and non-profit organizations so that they can exchange information to strengthen local communities. The site will also include a dashboard to reveal trends such as geography or innovation theme, the release said.

The release also stated the HUD will be conducting its first Innovation Summit this winter to facilitate sharing of ideas and stimulate policy development.
