'Game of Thrones' Author Doesn't Know How to End the HBO Series

How does one write a fitting end to a hit TV series like 'Game of Thrones'?

Apparently, even George R.R. Martin, the author of the phenomenal book, has not decided (yet) how the final scene of the show is going to unfold. "I haven't written the ending yet," Martin said in an interview posted in ign.com, when asked if the ending would be particularly dark. "I've said before that the tone of the ending that I'm going for is bittersweet," he added.

Still, despite this revelation, fans of the book and the series are locked in debate as to what would happen to all the characters they love. Some are discussing the return of Jon Snow from the dead, and others are speculating on some outlandish scenarios that nobody wants to contradict. Every GOT fan out there knows anything is possible, given by how Martin has written the script for HBO's massive hit.

But while the lines are yet to be written, and the plot to be decided, George R.R. Martin does have an inspiration in mind: 'The Lord of the Rings.' In a post in forbes.com, the author was quoted as saying, "I mean, it's no secret that Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended 'Lord of the Rings.' It ends with victory, but it's a bittersweet victory. Frodo is never whole again, and he goes away to the Undying Lands, and the other people live their lives."

This should be somewhat a bit of a good news for all fans. The good guys will somehow prevail and the bad ones will be vanquished. But as to the extent of how bitter the part will be to fans of the series, only the final episode can tell. Until then, it's anybody's guess and everything is ultimately possible. If Martin can pull it off, it will surely be epic.
