A stately, turn-of-the-century home once owned by lumber magnate George W Truitt, reported to be Suffolk’s first millionaire, will be sold at an auction Sept 7. Regardless of the price, the house will be sold to the highest bidder, a press release stated.
Built in 1909, the all-brick mansion rests at the corner of Bank and Grace Streets in the heart of historic downtown Suffolk.
The five-storey house is spread across roughly 5,800 sq ft. It has 21 rooms with 14-foot ceilings, including a ballroom on the third floor. The house also have formal rooms, five bedrooms, three and one-half bathrooms, servants quarters with two bedrooms and a butler’s pantry and a music gallery overlooking the living room.
Besides, this historical mansion also has a two-story four-bay carriage house and a stable.
The auction will be held at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, Sept 7 at 6pm.
