Silent Hills P.T. was one of the most awaited horror video games, and renowned director Guillermo Del Toro was even slated to be at the helm of its production.
But what would have been a powerful pairing wasn't meant to be as the project was cancelled when Konami and legendary game designer Hideo Kojima decided to part ways. The director was quoted in a post in idigitaltimes.com as saying: "I have proven to be the albatross of video games. I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami. I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone else's life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I'll join someone and his house will explode, or something."
Del Toro said he still wants to continue making games that will be based from his body of work, but his actual involvement is already out of the question. And to add more to the frustration of fans who have been waiting for the title for quite some time now, a trailer was already made that starred 'The Walking Dead's' Norman Reedus. Konami has already announced that the game was officially cancelled, but said in a statement posted by ign.com that "Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic 'Silent Hills' project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued."
It's the second time the 'Pacific Rim' director has found himself involved in a video game project that did not materialize. This prompted him to issue the statement that he will no longer be involved in future endeavors in the field. It looks like Del Toro is dead serious about avoiding video games from now on, but only time will tell if his fans will ever get to play a title with his stamp on it.
