Tears flowed from the eyes of Jason Day, an Australian professional golfer and PGA Tour member, as he tapped in for par and a 5-under 67 leading to a three-shot victory.
Day who was seen sobbing on the shoulder of his caddie, Colin Swatton, was able to win PGA Championship last Sunday at Whistling Straits in record fashion. Day according to Yahoo Sports fired-round 67 at the course and was able to finish with a score 20-under par, placing him in golf history as the player who has the lowest finished to par in a major championship. After such achievement, Day was quoted saying according yahoo sports that;
"It's a fantastic record to hold... There's been such amazing golfers, especially throughout the history of golf, our sport, and to have that record just goes to show the work I've put in is paying off."
It was a very emotial moment for Day, who was struggling to overcome the death of his father according to espn.It was reprted that Day was worried about the said even, thinking that it might turn out to be a major failure. AS he shared to espn that;
"Not being able to finish, it would have been tough for me mentally to really kind of come back from that...Even though I feel like I'm a positive person, I think that in the back of my mind something would have triggered and I would have gone, 'Maybe I can't really finish it off... It felt like I was mentally and physically grinding it out as hard as I could. I wasn't going to stop fighting until it over."
Despite the uncertainties Day was able to bring home the bacon. The event did not just earn Day a significant spot in Golf but it boosted more of his morale and confidence, he then stated that;
"A lot of emotion has come out because I've been so close so many times and fallen short... Just to be able to finish the way I did was amazing."
