Whatsapp just announced a new version for its millions of Android users and it is aptly called the Whatsapp 2.12.232 Beta for Android. Apart from the expected fixes that usually comes with every update, this one is what many users have been clamoring. Finally, Whatsapp users can store and backup their chat history on Google Drive which wasn't possible before. In a detailed explanation posted in neurogadget.com, the company announced that the Beta version will allow all users who install it to backup to the cloud all their conversations.

The company also listed the steps on how to do it: To backup the chat history on the cloud, go to WhatsApp's Settings->Chat and Calls->Chat Backup and tap on the "Backup" button. After that, you will need to give permissions to WhatsApp and Google Drive to perform backups and save the chat history on the cloud.

Since it is still in Beta, this version of Whatsapp won't be found in Google Play store, or at least not yet. Users need to go directly to the company's website to download it and it's not certain if all versions of Android is supported. According to report in thewiire.com. First users say that this new version of Whatsapp is available to download only on Android Lollypop 5.0 version and is not available for the other versions. However, the new version of whatsapp has many new features and bug fixes. The size of the APK file is also reduced by 5KB.

Whether it rolls out for all Android Whatsapp users or not, the company still scored big since it's one of the biggest complaints of users who lose their phones and want to retrieve important communications in their chats and conversations. With this improvement, Whatsapp is poised to gain more users in the coming days after the rollout has been completed. It's now only a matter of keeping users satisfied until the next update.
