'Star Wars' Land Coming to Disney Theme Parks

Wonderful news for all "Star Wars" fanatics. Fans will soon be able to experience the world of the Jedi through a new "Star Wars" land which will be added to two Disney theme parks.

The exciting news was announced by Disney CEO, Bob Iger, during the D23 expo held last Saturday, August 15, reports Entertainment Weekly. Iger told the D23 expo attendees that a "Star Wars" land will soon be added to Disneyland in Anaheim, California and the Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The collaboration between Disney parks and Star Wars Galaxy will introduce a 14-acre expansion that will be inhabited by humanoids, aliens, and droids. According to the Disney executive, the yet to be named "Star Wars" land will be "one of the last ports before wild space" and will feature stores and restaurants operated by "local inhabitants" to make the experience more realistic and "deeply immersive."

Iger also revealed other attractions such as a cantina, similar to the one seen in the 1977 "Star Wars" movie. The "Star Wars" land will also enable fans to see familiar creatures from various series, along with never before seen characters from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." A signature attraction will be Han Solo's starship freighter, the Millennium Falcon, which fans will be able to fly in and also reportedly take control. Iger teased that the Falcon will take future park guests right in the middle of an aerial battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Aside from the "Star Wars" land, enhancements to "Star Wars" related attractions will also be coming to Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California, states Variety. The "Star Tours - The Adventure Continues" will receive an update of new characters and locations from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." A new interactive experience called the "Star Wars Launch Bay" will also provide park guests with a behind-the-scenes look of "The Force Awakens" including special exhibits and an opportunity to purchase special merchandise. Meawhile, the "Jedi Training Academy" will also be enhanced to include new characters from Disney XD's "Star Wars Rebels." Lastly a season event will be introduced to both parks called the "Season of the Force." No details has been disclosed about the event only that it will launch by 2016.

It seems that Disney has a lot in store for "Star Wars" fanatics! Fans of this epic space adventure will surely look forward to the day that the "Star Wars" land will open in Disney theme parks.
