Zac Efron Tells All About Shark-y Encounter While In Hawaii

Zac Efron swims with the big fish, literally.

An article on vcpost.com reported on "High School Musical" actor Zac Efron with his close-up experience swimming with tiger sharks. On his official Twitter account, the actor posted a three minute video detailing his encounter with them fishy friends in Hawaii. Actors Efron and Adam DeVine were off the coast of Hawaii, specifically in the island of Oahu, with conservationists headed by One Ocean Diving (a Haleiwa-based conservation and research company). Shark photographer Jeff Kurr however noted that Efron was not only having fun but was also reckless about it. Kurr said that Zac Efron was lucky enough that the tiger shark just didn’t mind him grabbing his fin and not attack him.

Another article on hawaiimagazine.com featured Efron’s experience with the sharks. It all started during a break filming the actors’ new comedy (will be out in cinemas this month) “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”. A resort employee suggested on the underwater experience while the two were apparently staying at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahulu. One Ocean Diving instructor and conservationist Ocean Ramsey was quoted as saying of the actors’ experience as “empowering and wonderful”. Ramsey actually goes in deep with the beasties every day, studying them in their natural habitat and also contribute to scientific research endeavors.

Still from the same article, Ramsey continued “Ninety percent of the people who get on our boats are terrified of sharks...A lot of the time, fear comes from a lack of understanding. I can pretty much tell you that by the time people get back to the docks, they feel 100 percent better about sharks and more much likely to vote for any kind of [shark conservation] policy change.”

Well, Zac Efron definitely was not afraid to give it a try.
