'Baywatch' Movie Cast & Plot Update: Zac Efron Confirms His Role, Teases Fans On What Will Happen In The Movie

Earlier this month it was reported that Zac Efron might join Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the upcoming "Baywatch" movie, and just recently it was confirmed that the "Neighbors" star will be flaunting his abs in the upcoming film. According to MTV News, Johnson confirmed the participation of Efron in his Twitter account.

For the promotion of his upcoming film "We Are Your Friends," Efron gave some small details about his upcoming movie with "The Rock." In the interview he said that he and Johnson met before and just had a conversation about the movie and did not even realize that it was finally going to materialize.

Efron added that they are currently working on the movie and he said that they are making sure that they pay homage to the original show. He revealed that he and Johnson are going to beat up some "dudes" in the movie and are going to swim a lot.

According to International Business Times, Efron revealed that Johnson wanted the movie to be "badass" and Efron describes Johnson as the "coolest guy in the world."

It was earlier reported that Johnson will be playing the role of a serious lifeguard who is forced to team up with a young hot-headed guy in order to save the beach from the hands of an oil tycoon. As of writing, other cast members are not confirmed yet. However, it was said that "Horrible Bosses" director Seth Gordon will direct the movie, and "Friday the 13th" writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift will be creating the script.

The original "Baywatch" TV series ran from 1989 to 2001 and starred David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Carmen Electra and David Chokachi. The appearance of the original cast members in the movie was also not confirmed yet.

As of writing no official release date for the movie was announced but it is expected to be in theaters by 2016.
