'Star Trek Beyond' 2016 Cast News: 'About Time' Star Lydia Wilson Joins The Film; Is She the Mysterious Female Character?

As the production of the latest "Star Trek" movie continues, a new star was announced to be joining the cast. Den Of Geek reports that "About Time" star Lydia Wilson will be featured in the movie alongside Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana. Aside from the recurring cast members, Wilson will also join newcomers like Idris Elba, Joe Taslim, and Sofia Boutella.

Wilson is best known for her role as Domhnall Gleeson's sister in the romantic movie "About Time," and she also appeared as Laura in "Misfits" and Hannah in "Never Let Me Go." According to Variety, Wilson's role in the movie was not revealed yet and Paramount and Skydance did not reveal details about the actress' role.

However, Cinemablend speculates that Wilson might play the new mysterious female character in the movie. According to the site, there have been rumors that there will be three new female parts in the upcoming "Star Trek Beyond," and it is possible that Wilson will be one of them.

Reports claim that the three new female characters are said to be a fellow Starfleet captain who will give Captain Kirk, played by Pine, a hard time; the next character is the president of the United Federation of Planets; and the last will be Bones' (Urban) ex-wife.

However, this might not be the case anymore as it was reported that Simon Pegg came aboard to help rewrite the script with Doug Jung. Justin Lin will be directing the film and J.J. Abrams will produce it along with his producer partner Bryan Burke.

"Star Trek Beyond" will reportedly revolve on the crew of the starship Enterprise in the midst of their five-year mission where they explore the galaxy in search for a new life. This is reportedly different from the last two movies which revolved around the earth.

"Star Trek Beyond" is currently in production in Vancouver and is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 8, 2016.
