Rachel McAdams has proven her skills in acting over the past years that she has been in the industry. She went from doing wild, perky, and girlie roles to doing heavy, mature, and unexpected roles. "Regina George" was her most major breakout role. For the people outside the "Mean Girls" generation, Regina George is a high school troop leader who oozes with condescension and has mastered the art of manipulation. The movie became a theme for the then teenagers who had a Regina George inside them.
Even though Rachel McAdams only played a supporting role for Lindsay Lohan, she managed to make the film her bridge to being memorable. Her succeeding major role also did her well in her career. As she liplocked with Ryan Gosling in "The Notebook," and as she made everyone cry in that movie, she was able to score big to audiences, proving herself in being a veteran actress. She went from wild to romantic with "Mean Girls" and "The Notebook."
Right now, McAdams ventures into more interesting roles, showing off what else she is able to do as an actress. In her role in "True Detective", McAdams character 'Ani', has drinking, drugs, and porn as her pastime, with some knife-carrying stunts on the sides. Ani is also a fan of gambling. "I'm really proud of Ani. She feels good in her own skin and is comfortable with who she is. I think she holds the world up to a very high standard but the standards that she holds herself to are even higher. She can never live up to her expectations." Says McAdams. Although she also said that the role made her body sick due to its demands.
In her latest film "Southpaw," McAdams played another different role being a wife of a boxing champion played by Jake Gyllenhaal. She immersed herself in boxing by working with a fighter and going to fights so as to understand her role better. "It was important to understand the sport, like a real-life wife would have done." she says.
