Most Haunted House in Saint Paul is for Sale

If paranormal activity is your thing, then head straight to 476 Summit Avenue in Saint Paul, Minnesota, for an eerie mansion dating back to the 1880s is up for grabs.

With the dubious reputation of being the most haunted house in Saint Paul, the Griggs Mansion is in the market for $1.1 million, Curbed.com reported.

The mansion is spread across 13,8000 sq ft and retains its original charm with carved marble mantelpieces, nine fireplaces and wood-paneled walls. The four-storey Victorian mansion, which is surrounded by large trees that provides shade and certain level of privacy, has 24 rooms.

The website reported that the mansion first came in the market in September 2009 for $1.8 million, but today it is available for $1.1M. Industry sources say that price slash is might be to lure buyers who are staying away due to mansion’s reputation as the most haunted house in Saint Paul.

In 1939 the mansion was converted into an art school and was in use for close to 25 years till the new Arts and Science building was constructed.

Hauntedhouses.com reports that teachers and students were glad to move as they didn’t have to share the space with unseen forces.

“While a lot of supernatural activity seems to be centered around the 4th floor, many parts of the house have been visited by entities as well. Six or seven entities have been felt, heard, made their existence known by various means and have actually been seen throughout the years,” the website reported.

The mansion, which was built by wealthy businessman Chauncey Griggs is said to house the spirits of a young maid, a gardener, a child, a thin man in a black suit and a Civil War general among others. The civil war general is said to be Griggs himself, Hauntedhouse.com reported.

According to the website the young maid’s is the strongly felt presence in the mansion. It is said that in 1915 she hung herself off the 4th floor landing, due to a failed affair.
