‘Starcraft 2’ Download: Game To Get Automated Tournaments; New Feature Poised To Become the Best Ever

Avid fans of "Starcraft 2" will be able to experience a new feature in the game. Blizzard has announced that the video game will get automated tournaments. It was said that the automated tournaments was first revealed in November 2014 and is now coming to the beta as an update for the upcoming "StarCraft" expansion, "Legacy of the Void." Blizzard claimed that it had "been hard at work on building this feature into something truly promising," PC Gamer reported on Wedneday.

"Automated tournaments will run in two different formats: a three-round, single-elimination bracket on Monday through Thursday, and a six-round, group-stage set up on Friday through Sunday. The three-rounders are expected to take 60 to 90 minutes to complete, while the weekend tournaments will eat up three to four hours," wrote PC Gamer, describing the video game's mechanics.

According to PC Gamer, players can only join one tournament at a time. Once the tournament begins, a player will be locked in that tournament even if a player opts to log out or attempts to close the client.

It was reported that if a player will not play in the matches, the match will be automatically forfeited. A 25-minute time limit is allotted for each match, which Blizzard claims roughly "equates to a 35-minute game in Heart of the Swarm because of changes to the game clock in Legacy of the Void. If the game isn't concluded before the time limit is hit, victory will go to whoever has the highest experience point total, gained by earning money, and building and destroying units."

The game developer is also reportedly planning for players to be automatically connected to a private chat channel so they can join other players in the tournament. Included in the company's plan is to have Automated Tournaments rewards visible elsewhere in the video game.

Daily Dot reports that Automated Tournaments will offer players a more structured way to compete, and it stressed that it's a "welcome change." It was said that players "have been clamoring for something similar since the game's launch, but it's taken until now for players of any skill level to have a way to experience a tourney environment."

"Please keep in mind that everything you see here is a very early implementation of Automated Tournaments. There are still features to be added, bugs to be fixed, and feedback to be received. Nevertheless, we felt that it was time to offer this feature to our players so that we could gather the testing and feedback needed to ensure that Automated Tournaments ends up becoming the best feature possible," wrote Blizzard on its website, suggesting that such feature is still a work in progress.
