Marilyn Monroe's New York City "Sanctuary" Now up for Rent

The iconic Marilyn Monroe, who was a symbol as well of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood during its Golden Era, had this particular place she called "sanctuary" in New York City. Found at 127 East 78th Street and currently owned by the actress' colleague, close friend and fashion photographer, Milton Greene, the place is now up for rent for $27,500 a month. Greene's residence was a home-away-from-home to the sex goddess whenever she was in the city to visit friends.

The four-storey townhouse has four and a half bedrooms as well as two and a half bathrooms, one of which has a steam shower and a Jacuzzi bathtub in it. The house showcases a marble staircase and stained glass from the famous Luchow's restaurant, high ceilings, five fireplaces, spacious rooms and outdoor spaces. While the residence's glossy interiors have been through some refurbishment since Monroe's time, to this day it still exudes the trendiness of old Hollywood. It also comes with modern add-ons such as a central air conditioning, heating, and security system. The laundry system is situated in the basement.

Aside from these, the intricate rendering of some of its details will surely lure people into it--from the decorative wall papers to the checkered kitchen floor.

"Throughout the home, original details have been lovingly preserved and modern conveniences seamlessly infused," shared John Carapella, a representative for the real estate firm, to the Daily Mail. "It is an honor to represent this treasure," he added.

The residence is also just a short walk from Central Park, and is surrounded by elegant shops, cafés, culture and fine dining.

Monroe and Greene were not just friends. Together they had formed the Marilyn Monroe Productions which paved way for the photographer's introduction to the public eye. Some of the movies the company produced were "The Prince and the Showgirl" and "Bus Stop," two of Monroe's most popular flicks, together with "Don't Bother to Knock" and "Some Like It Hot."

In addition to Monroe and Greene, other celebrities such as Irving Berlin and Bette Davis, were also among the residents of this apartment since it was constructed in 1899.
