2016 Volvo XC90 Update: Features, Advantages and Highlights; XC90 Selling Like Hotcakes?

Swedish multinational car manufacturer Volvo Cars has announced that three out of four of the total number of orders for the 2016 Volvo XC90 are for the luxury inscription model.

In an interview with Car Scoops, Volvo's Senior Vice-President for Marketing, Sales and Customer Service said that he is satisfied with the numbers. "It is fair to say that we have now entrenched our position as a premium car maker," said the VP.

The new model, a luxury SUV, is one of a series that shows the first major redesign in Volvo's old SUV since 2003. This SUV model costs $48,900 and is the most important car released by the Chinese-owned, Swedish-based company in the past two decades, after being beaten in the car market for several years by SUV automobiles from German companies Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, as well as Brit-owned Land Rover.

But it seems that the XC90 is turning out to be a big cash cow for Volvo, receiving nearly 57,000 orders, way above the targeted 50,000 orders. The high demand has caused an increase in shifts in Volvo's manufacturing plant in Torslanda, Sweden to complete all the orders. Carscoops.com also mentions that there is a possibility that the model might end up as one of the top three best selling SUV models by year-end.

Based on the report of Bloomberg, some of the features that have broadened the appeal of Volvo XC90 are its bold erect grill, the 21-inch rims, the Volvo-signature still-square shape of the side windows, T-shaped LED headlamps, three rows of seats, and latte-hued wood panels in the car's interiors. Its sunroof also reaches most of the roof, and the charming tiny Swedish flags are also in place, a clear indication of the manufacturer's Swedish roots.

The model is also the first in a batch of new models that Volvo will be introducing in the market in the next five years.
