A seminar to help first-time home buyers in San Diego County with homeownership is being organized by Shea Homes on Sept 22.
The workshop, which is open to all San Diego residents, will be held at Civita in Mission Valley and mainly targets first-time buyers, members of the military, those looking to move up into larger homes, and for those that have gone through a short sale or foreclosure, a press release said.
“We want to help our prospective buyers navigate the process and take advantage of today’s favorable interest rates and pricing,” Vanessa Linn, vice-president of sales and marketing for Shea Homes San Diego said in a statement.
Among the topics that will be discussed are how to get started by figuring out what you can afford; how to apply for a loan; learn more about VA, FHA, and or other special loan programs available; comparing the cost of renting and buying; benefits of home ownership including tax advantages; how to improve credit scores after going through a short sale or foreclosure.
“Rebuilding credit is a challenge faced by many San Diegans today,” said Linn. “Our experts from Shea Mortgage Customer Plus can provide expert guidance to help prospective buyers repair their credit standing.”
San Diego is yet to jump on the housing recovery wagon, as home prices in the areas are still lower compared to last year’s numbers. This is in contrast with the national trend where a rise in home prices has been recorded. However, experts believe that an upward trend is expected soon with sales increasing.
