"Are you looking for an alternative to the sugar-coated tedium of the average family day out? Or just somewhere a lot cheaper? Then this is the place for you. Bring the whole family to come and enjoy the latest addition to our chronic leisure surplus..." - Dismaland
If you're answer to the question is yes, then you better book a ticket and visit Dismaland, dubbed as the "UK's most disappointing new visitor attraction," according to thisiscolossal. If you are thinking what would be the opposite of Disneyland, then Dismaland would be suitable answer for such query. If you wanted to see a Cinderella who was horribly mangled in a pumpkin carriage crash and still being harassed by paparazzi who despite the accident continued to take photos, then come and check the place.
That is not the only offering of Dismaland, which is considered as latest gigantic confluence of artistic expression in the United Kingdom. For upon entering the place you will be greeted not with the usual smile of the staff, but rather with an unwelcoming depressed staff in pink hi-vis jackets, who accordingly only responded on a local paper ad for film extras.
And like the original Disneyland theme park, Dismaland also has its own Disney-like castle, but it is rather dingy than being clean and lively. Perhaps one of the most noticeable Disney characters that you would not see on the place is Mickey Mouse, for according to the genius behind the project, Bansky, he said via theguardian that;
"I banned any imagery of Mickey Mouse from the site. It's a showcase for the best artists I could imagine, apart from the two who turned me down."
Bansky, artist and political activist, who maintains his anonymity, rallied 58 artists which include Damien Hirst, Bill Barminski, Caitlin Cherry, Polly Morgan, Josh Keyes, Mike Ross, David Shrigley, Bäst, and Espo in order to help him create the said masterpiece. And for the people interested to witness the result of this convergence of artists from different part of the globe, the theme park would be open on August 22 through September 27th, 2015.
