A triplex penthouse owned by the late Helen Scholz, step-daughter of Brooke Astor and Ernest Schelling on Park Avenue, NYC, has come on the market.
According to The Real Deal, the apartment complex at 863 Park Avenue has been in the same family for more than a century. The apartment is one of just 23, in the pre-war building constructed by developer William Taylor in 1906.
Scholz resided in the estate until 2007 when she died, The Real Deal reported.
The apartment is on the market today for $6.25 million and is listed by John Glass of Brown Harris Stevens.
Broker Kirk Henckels of Stribling & Associates told The Real Deal it is extremely rare for a property to remain in the same family for such a long time. Henckels, who does deals in the Park Avenue building, said he could only name one other such instance.
"This is potentially a very glamorous apartment," Henckels told The Real Deal of the Park Avenue listing. "This is pretty much the original floor plan, as far as I can see."
According to the listing, the three-bedroom complex features double-height ceilings and a wood-burning fireplace, The Real Deal reported.
The apartment first belonged to Scholz's cousin, Frances Guthrie. Guthrie was one of the buildings first residents, shortly after it was constructed in 1906, according to the New York Times.
