Microsoft Xbox One Update: Backwards Compatibility Delayed Until Next Week; New Games To Be Added?

Microsoft Xbox head Phil Spencer has announced via his Twitter account that the company will announce the next batch of video games playable on Xbox One via backwards compatibility next week, noting that they have been delayed. Spencer has apologized for teasing the games for an earlier date, and the said delay has sparked disappointment from fans, a report from Gamespot said.

"@kevcampbell I apologize. Looks like BC news is delayed and will likely come next week. Again, sorry for the delay," Spencer said last Friday via his Twitter, answering a question asked by a fan if the backwards compatibility will be released this week.

It can be recalled that Microsoft has earlier announced that backwards compatibility will be rolling this week, but unfortunately, with this recent announcement fans will have to wait a little longer.

"The backwards compatibility feature is available to Preview Program members as they perfect it and will be available to everyone in November. There is expected to be over 100 available titles at launch and Microsoft has promised all Games with Gold for the Xbox 360 will be made available on Xbox One as well with this feature," Gamespresso explained.

According to the report, several developers and publishers have already expressed their eagerness for the chance to revitalize their back-catalogs. For instance, Criterion is planning to include "Burnout Paradise" in Microsoft's Xbox One modern console, while both Ubisoft and Electronic Arts have also manifested their interest to bring some of its back-catalog titles to the new platform.

Gamespot reports that "fans also really want 'Red Dead Redemption' to be made playable on Xbox One. With more than 87,000 votes, Rockstar's 2010 western action game sits near the top of Microsoft's most-requested backwards compatibility voting page, behind only 'Call of Duty: Black Ops II.'"

Microsoft said that there will be new games that will be added to the roster each month. With this, players can play both generations of the game in a single console.

Fans have also been speculating on additional games that will be added this month. However, the company stressed, "We can't promise every title will be available, but we're working hard to make as many of your favorite Xbox 360 titles playable on Xbox One."
