Years have passed and the US government continually opposes in having Medical Marijuana as a medicinal option in treating cancer stating that the plant has no medicinal value. It was just a couple of years when a break though occurred that the US government finally admitted that marijuana has the capability to kill cancer cells. Though they'd still claim that: "there is not enough evidence to recommend that patients inhale or ingest cannabis as a treatment for cancer-related symptoms or side effects of cancer therapy". Their admission however highlights their change in perspective.
As per The Free Thought Project, numerous scientific studies have been made regarding the beneficial properties of marijuana, and just this April NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) revised their write ups for them to be able to suggest that cannabis has the capability to shrink brain tumors by eliminating cancer cells. They then stated that "marijuana can kill cancer cells and reduce the size of others." they then added that "Evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors. Research in mice showed that these extracts, when used with radiation, increased the cancer-killing effects of the radiation."
Mirror then reported that the US government's Cancer.org researcher made a study on cannabis and its effect on individuals, he then made a report regarding his findings stating:
"Studies in mice and rats have shown that cannabinoids may inhibit tumor growth by causing cell death, blocking cell growth, and blocking the development of blood vessels needed by tumors to grow. Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells."
"A laboratory study of delta-9-THC in hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) cells showed that it damaged or killed the cancer cells. The same study of delta-9-THC in mouse models of liver cancer showed that it had antitumor effects."
