"Orange is the New Black" Season 4 fans are wondering whether or not actress Katie Holmes will finally join the cast of the hit Netflix series. According to series creator Jenji Kohan, Holmes was the first actress she thought of when she was tasked to cast the role of Piper Chapman. The character is currently being played by actress Taylor Schilling.
In an interview with ET Online, Kohan said, "I'm a big fan of Holmes. I met with her originally for Piper, I believe."
At that time, no one knew that "Orange is the New Black" would become one of the most popular shows on Netflix. Holmes declined the role because she was busy with her other engagements.
A few years later, "OITNB" has received multiple awards and fans continue to look forward to what will happen to their favorite characters on the show.
Meanwhile, ahead of Season 3, Kohan said that there's a chance Holmes could be cast as a guest star on "Orange is the New Black." However, fans who have finished watching the series would know that this never happened.
At that time, Kohan said, "She could be friends with Lorna (Yael Stone) or like Lorna's Boston sister." Now, fans are wondering whether or not Kohan will once again try to tap Holmes for a role in Season 4.
In other news, several other celebrities have been tapped to appear in the upcoming installment of the hit Netflix series. However, their names are still being kept under wraps.
What is only known as of the moment is that Alex (Laura Prepon) will return to the series despite rumors that she has been killed. Natasha Lyonne's Nicky Nichols' character will also return in Season 4 after being absent for the most part of Season 3, according to Pop Sugar.
"Orange is the New Black" Season 4 will premiere on Netflix in June 2016.
