A brush fire erupted in Big Bear Snow Summit Ski Resort on Sunday which had firemen rushing to the scene and prompting authorities to call for mandatory evacuation. The fire started in Pine Knot Avenue and Knickerbocker Road at around 12:30 pm and after just an hour had blazed its way to over 10 acres. This was reported in the post by ktla.com which mentioned San Bernardino County Fire Department as the source of the information. As tweeted by their representatives, at 6:45 pm the fire had already consumed 100 acres and only about thirty percent was contained.
In the same posted report by ktla.com, forced evacuations were announced for areas in the Knickerbocker Road East up to Georgia Road. Including in the bulletin was south of Pennsylvania Road up to the boundary of the forest. In the areas south of Brownie Lane, East of Thrush Drive, North of Switzerland drive, and the West of Summit Boulevard were placed on voluntary evacuation. Travis Mason, US Forest Service spokesperson said there are more than four hundred homes that are in the path of the brush fire but there are no reports of casualties or any injuries.
A post in scpr.org reported that an evacuation center in Big Bear Convention Center was set up for those affected by the brush fire. It is located in the intersection of Big Bear Boulevard and Division Road. The Snow Summit resort's guests and users was already evacuated and authorities note that bikers and hikers are the usual crowd using the ski lifts during this time of the year. The fire is burning at moderate speed rate while it burns moderate to heavy fuels. The temperature rose to 80 degrees with humidity hitting fifteen percent. 10 miles per hour winds are blowing from the North. The real cause of the fire is still under investigation.
