The Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx announced on Monday that they are planning to spend more than $100 million for the hospitals first freestanding ambulatory surgery center.
According to Crain's, the hospital located on 1250 Waters Place in the Bronx, has agreed to lease a 12-story, 278,000-square-foot building to be built near the Hutchinson River Parkway, and is currently asking for permission from the state to begin the construction right away.
The Establishment and Project Review Committee of the Public and Health Planning Council approved the announced plan on Sept. 19 and the entire group will vote on the project this month.
This new plan will relocate some of the hospitals ambulatory surgery cases from operating rooms at the hospital to the new building. The building is expected to be a "more efficient and patient-friendly environment," according to Crain's.
The total cost of the project will be funded with a "$35 million lease from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York's Tax Exempt Lease Program, or TELP; $14.3 million in cash; and a $93 million loan from M&T Bank, with a term of 16 years at 3.5," Crain's reported.
According to Crain's, Montefiore noted in its application certificate that "Improving access to care and patient satisfaction would 'retain patients in the system, critical to an accountable care organization.'"
Providing good service to its patients is one of the key factors driving the project.
Becker's ASC Review reported that the center will include 12 operating rooms, four procedure rooms, space for pre-op testing, laboratory services, pharmacy, outpatient surgical specialty clinical programs, primary care services and an outpatient imaging center.
The soon to be built center is expected to have executed 14,939 surgeries, 23,737 imaging studies, 47,460 primary care visits and 190,844 clinical visits and procedures. These executions are expected to make the hospital $11.7 million in profit, Becker's reported.
