One Direction fans had a bad Monday when news broke that the British band will go on an extended hiatus beginning March 2016. This also led to speculations and rumors that One Direction (1D) will soon disband. However, 1D band member Niall Horan confirmed that One Direction is "not splitting up."
Horan took to Twitter Monday shortly after the announcement was made and also to respond to a report by U.K. tabloid, The Sun, over the group's alleged split, reports Rolling Stone. The British musician wrote on his official Twitter account that the band will only be taking a "well-earned break at some point next year." Horan also told One Directioners not to worry and that band "still have lots we want to achieve." He even wrote, "Can't wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform."
The Sun had written that One Direction "will disband in March" and that the band members reportedly decided "not to tour again" during a meeting in London last weekend. The U.K. tabloid went on to report that the band's "last full concert" will be at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, to be held on October 31. The Sun also mentioned that One Direction will not launch a tour to promote their forthcoming fifth album.
RollingStone tried to reach out to the band's spokesperson, however the One Direction representative declined to comment on the story.
Meanwhile, the band announced their extended hiatus plan Monday wherein the Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Horan mutually agreed to take at least a year long break, a source confirms to People. The break will reportedly allow the four musicians to focus on their own individual projects.
Earlier in June, People reported that the band members had initial plans of following their own solo projects "just like the Rolling Stones." 1D fans will have to wait for Payne, Styles, Tomlinson and Horan to reveal more details about their future individual plans.
