Few details about the new installment to the "Battlefield" series have been revealed, but over time various rumors and speculations have circulated online. The latest of these is Electronic Arts (EA) Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blake Jorgensen confirming "another 'Battlefield' title" in 2016.
Bleeding Cool reports that according to an earnings call, Jorgensen mentioned a new "'Battlefield experience" coming in Q17, which is said to be Christmas 2016.
"I do think what we have said is that our intention is to try over the next couple of years to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles, this year obviously Star Wars Battlefront, next year another Battlefield title.
We have a new Battlefield experience coming in Q3 FY 2017 and another new Star Wars project being led by the dynamic creative team of Jade Raymond and Amy Hennig. These are just a few of the new experiences in development across our studios today."
However, reports claim that such announcement still does not confirm if the said upcoming game is the anticipated "Battlefield 5." Some have earlier speculated that it could be "Bad Company 3" or another "Battlefield" spinoff like "Hardline." However, SegmentNext states that is likely "Battlefield 5" since Visceral Games has developed "Battlefield Hardline" this year, and it is reportedly unlikely that they'll produce another game next year. Also, the last "Battlefield" main game, "Battlefield 4," was released two years ago by DICE, so it reportedly makes more sense that the next title in line is "Battlefield 5."
Meanwhile, it was previously reported that "Battlefield 5"will still be military-themed as opposed to the cops and robbers theme. It was also said to be exclusive for next-generation consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is still unclear as of this writing if there will be a PC version. EA has yet to confirm all the rumors and reveal official details about the game.
