Software giant Microsoft has finally released the public beta of its first digital assistant Cortana in Android. With this, Android users will now be able to test the Cortana Android app. The company claims that Cortana works in multiple devices such as PC, mobile phones and more. The public beta release was announced via Microsoft Windows Blog earlier this week, a report from IGN said.
"If you are currently a Windows 10 user, you already know the benefits of Cortana. The Cortana app on Android is the companion to your Windows 10 PC, extending Cortana's functionality across any device you carry, everywhere you go. The Cortana app can do most of the things Cortana does on your PC or on a Windows phone. With the app, you can manage your hectic lifestyle by setting and getting reminders, searching the web on-the-go, tracking important information such as flight details as well as starting and completing tasks across all of your devices," Microsoft announced via its official blog site.
It can be recalled that Microsoft announced Cortana in May. The company plans to roll out its first digital assistant in both Android and iOS devices.
Cortana will assist users in performing tasks like searching on the Web, setting reminders, dictating emails, toggling device settings and more. The Cortana app for Android, as Microsoft emphasized, will serve as a companion to the former in Windows 10 PC, and users can actually download the app via Google Play Store.
Meanwhile, Forbes noted that Cortana competes directly with Google Now. It was said that both "were surprisingly good."
"Cortana's beta tests on Android didn't start perfectly. There were a few bugs, and it wasn't as consistently responsive-or as feature rich-as its Windows 10 version. But with the launch to 'public beta' today, which translates roughly to 'we think it's good enough for prime time, but don't blame us if you find a bug or two,' Cortana justifiably steps into the spotlight," the report said.
