"Pretty Little Liars" got their fans in a big uproar after they made some transgender insulting comments on their social media page. Some people are already upset about the season finale and the revealing of the 'transgender issue'. And the uproar isn't about people being against transgenders, but about the writers' decision to make a character a transgender just to explain "the nonsense" that they have created over the past years.
Six seasons have passed for "Pretty Little Liars" and they have recently revealed that Cece Drake was born male, named Charles. She then transitioned into being a woman while in her tweenies and has renamed to Charlotte, with the name Cece as an alias. It was such a big reveal for "Pretty Little Liars" fans. But the shock turned into hate when ABC Family tweeted out on the 25th of August, and referred to the character as an "it". They shared a meme of Sasha Pieterse and captioned it with "He. She. It. #PrettyLittleLiars." They deleted the tweet, of course, probably after realizing what mess they have put themselves into. However, fans have already captured screenshorts of the controversial tweet. ABC Family then received angry comments.
The issue is that it is okay to be confused with pronouns, but when referring to anybody, the confusion should just be between 'he' and 'she'. "It" on the other hand, is not okay to be labelled to someone. So, it would be very interesting how the network will apologize and explain their deed to everyone. It's either they say sorry, or they come up with an explanation about what they mean by their caption. They have to make sure that the explanation is smart enough to make sense though. It's kind of ironic for the network to make such controversial comments about transgenders when they happen to have a show that focuses on the transgender community. The new reality TV show called "Becoming Us" follows a man who transitioned from being male to female, with the support of his kids and wife.
