Pabst Mega Mansion in Wisconsin for Sale

The Georgian Colonial mansion in Wisconsin built for a Pabst heiress has been put on sale, according to realtor.com.

The grand 18,000-square-foot estate is placed on the market again at $4.2 million. It was commissioned by Captain Frederick Pabst for his great-granddaughter Elsa Pabst Byrnes and was completed in the 1960s. The captain is one of the beer barons who are credited for putting Milwaukee on the map. The German immigrant founded Pabst Brewing Co., one of the biggest in the area.

But what many people don't know is that Pabst also had a passion for building and designing homes. In Oconomowoc, the elegant mansion is set on 14 acres of land in a rich neighborhood west of downtown Milwaukee. It is where the first ever Corian sink was installed to which listing agent Pat Bolger said, "Evidently, the DuPonts were friends with the Pabsts."

The realtor.com post featuring the mansion described that the property has four levels, 39 rooms, and is also where the state's first elevator was installed. There are also several servants' quarters, drawing room with library, 11 fireplaces, three kitchens, a garage for eight cars, a boat launch, and a guesthouse. Bolger added: "The home was built for elaborate parties. Elsa was quite the socialite."

The lavish gatherings would often extend up to the next day since the house has eight bedrooms with nine baths that can accommodate 50 people, not to mention the guesthouse which has two more bedrooms and two baths. Byrnes lived there until 2001 when she decided to sell the place. Its current price is a steal compared to properties of the same size in other states.

According to Milwaukee Magazine, properties being sold at the $4 million mark and beyond is already "rich" for Milwaukee which is nothing compared to properties in Palm Beach, Florida where an oceanfront estate can fetch around $70 million.
