Microsoft Lumia 940, 940 XL Release Date & News: ‘Devices to Be Launched On Oct. 19 Alongside Surface Pro 4? Specs, Price & Details Here

A recent rumor claims that Microsoft's smartphones, the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, will be launched on October 19 alongside the Surface Pro 4 during the company's press event in New York City. The company is slated to host a media event on September 4 during the IFA 2015, iDigital Times said on Wednesday.

Nokia Power User reports that Microsoft plans to launch both Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL during a big launch event in the month of October. The latest speculation was confirmed by a tipster who is privy to the company's plan. The tipster confirmed that the launch event will be held in New York city. Aside from the two smartphones, the tipster adds that some accessories will also be revealed during the event.

According to the report, both Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL will powered by Windows 10 and will ship soon after the company announces the handsets. It was said that by the end of October, users can order the handsets in selected markets. In terms of price, Lumia 940 XL will be sold for $649 while the Lumia 950 has a price tag of $600.

Gizmo Index reports that Microsoft's Lumia 940 is codenamed "Talkman" while the Lumia 940 XL is codenamed "Cityman." Lumia 940 is expected to feature a 5.2 inch WQHD (1440×2560) display and it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chip. Other specifications include an Iris scanner, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion, a 20-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera. The phone will have a 3,000 mAh removable battery, a USB Type-C port and Qi wireless charging, among others.

Lumia 940 XL, meanwhile, will feature a 5.7-inch WQHD (1440×2560) display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and a 3,300 mAh battery, in addition to features found on the Lumia 940. It was noted that both handsets will have a matte white or black polycarbonate exterior and may include Windows Hello and Microsoft Continuum applications.
