Paramount's latest "Paranormal Activity" is leading this weekend's box office, bringing in $15 million, according to the Huffington Post.
"Paranormal Activity 4" was shown in 3,412 theaters and it cost just $5 million to produce.
The horror film picks up from where the third movie ended, five years after the disappearance of Katie and Hunter. A family in a suburban area witnesses a series of strange events in their neighborhood, after they welcome a woman and her mysterious child into the neighborhood.
Fans who have stuck with the series from the beginning are surely in for a real pre-Halloween treat, as the movie will keep them at the edge of their seats.
According to the Post, the last paranormal film had a record-breaking $54 million on its opening night. The movie is reportedly on track as it is expected to make $33.5 million over the weekend. This will place the movie in third place, right behind the third movie and the second which made $4.7 million in 2010.
The horror movie, however, is dialing up some pretty heavy numbers overseas, where it was opened in 33 different markets this weekend and already leading in the United Kingdom and Germany. According to the Post, the weekend estimate for overseas is $26.5 million, which will total up a worldwide debut of $60 million.
The 88 minutes horror film adds a few interesting concepts to the movie that provides new forms of scares.
