The Most Expensive Apartments in New York not Located in Manhattan

Wealthy New Yorkers have chosen apartments in the posh neighborhoods of Manhattan, until now. According to a report from Bloomberg.com, a Brooklyn home was recently sold for $15 million, a anymore.

According to appraisal firm Miller Samuel president Jonathan Samuel, "We have this perfect storm. Everybody gets the same idea at the same time, so materials and labor are at a premium. Throw in the high price of land for each locale, and you've got to build a luxury product."

For the quarter between April and June, the average price of a condo unit in Long Island City is now at $1.06 million, which is a 28 percent jump. In Brooklyn, the median price of a home now stands at $788,529, which is a far cry from its previous levels.

The most expensive rental though still can be found on Billionaires' Row. According to a report from nypost.com, the rental unit is worth $150,000 per month minimum. The said unit is located on the 65th floor of One57, which is on 57th Street in Manhattan. The unit has three bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms spread over 4,483 square feet of luxury.

The rental includes floor to ceiling windows, top of the line brand name appliances, two marbled master baths with a master suite having three walk-in closets. The location as well as the perks available make this unit a cut above the rest, such as a gym, yoga studio, a party room, a business center and even bike storage. One can even swim at the Park Hyatt pool, which occupies One57's first 25 floors.

Ironically, One57 is also the address of the most expensive apartment ever sold in the city. The apartment is a duplex that covers the 89th and 90th floors of the building. The purchase price was for a mind-boggling $100,471,452.77.
